The Negative Impact of a Medicare Public Option Proposal

A newly-released study by the American Hospital Association and the Federation of American Hospitals shows the detrimental impact a Medicare For All-Style proposal (Medicare-X Choice) could have on our nation’s health care system – including unprecedented cuts that would slash critical funding for the hospitals and doctors that care for America’s most vulnerable patients.

Access Preserved & Coverage Would Increase More Under Our Current System Than Medicare-X Choice

Approximately 9 million additional Americans could be covered  by leveraging our current healthcare system – nearly 4 million more than under Medicare-X Choice – expanding access to life-saving treatment and coverage for your family, friends, and neighbors.

Medicare-X Choice threatens patient access to 24/7 care, putting hospitals at risk of closure.

Under Medicare-X Choice, hospitals would incur $774 billion in cuts over ten years, and physicians nearly $90 billion in cutsleading to unprecedented access issues that threaten hospital closures and reduce access to life-saving care.

Rural Hospitals Are Already On The Brink:

Medicare-X Choice Really Means Less Choice For Everyone

Under a Medicare For All-Style proposal like Medicare-X Choice, patients will see fewer and fewer options – driving an estimated 67% of consumers away from private plans in the  individual markets nationally, and as many as 80% of consumers in some states. It is likely that the only plan remaining will be the government plan.

“Medicare-X Choice is simply Medicare For All, Medicare Buy-In, single payer or a public option by another name – and it will bring one-size-fits-all health care that will reduce critical care from health care providers and hospitals across the country, and restrict the choice and control Americans currently have over their doctors, treatments and coverage – while burdening hardworking families with higher taxes, longer wait times and lower quality care. Every American deserves access to affordable, quality health care – by improving what’s working in our current system and fixing what’s not.”
